Registrations now open for 2026 as Rugby League participation continues to surge across NSW

The Community Rugby Leagues Association (CRLA) is pleased to support the opening of Rugby League registrations for the 2026 season, following another year of record participation across NSW and ACT.
In 2025, more than 122,430 people took the field, marking the third year in a row Rugby League participation has climbed statewide – a 4.1 per cent increase from 2024. Grassroots involvement continues to strengthen, with more boys, girls and young people choosing Rugby League as their sport of choice.
Female participation continues to surge at an unprecedented rate, with 33,306 girls and women registered in 2025 – up 11 per cent from the previous season. Women and girls now make up 27 per cent of all participants, reflecting the growing pathway and visibility of female Rugby League from minis to international competitions. Male participation rose to 89,124 players, an increase of 1.7 per cent.
These results follow strong investment into local Clubs, with NSWRL recently allocating almost $1.4 million in infrastructure funding to 12 Clubs across the state – improving fields, facilities and community environments for players and volunteers.
“Community Rugby League is thriving thanks to the tireless work of volunteers, administrators, coaches and families right across NSW,” CRLA Chair Kristie Laird said.
“Participation growth shows the passion that exists in our communities and the importance of continuing to support Clubs to create safe, inclusive and welcoming environments. We encourage everyone – new and returning – to register for 2026 and be part of the Game for All.”
Registration growth has been consistent over several years, with 112,767 participants recorded in 2023, increasing to 117,557 in 2024, before reaching this year’s record high.
Whether you’re lacing up for the first time, returning for another year, or stepping into a volunteer role, 2026 is the perfect time to join in. Rugby League builds resilience, confidence, teamwork and lifelong friendships – and the CRLA is proud to continue strengthening the community game.
