Last week, Community Rugby Leagues Association Chair Kristie Laird met with Fran Hahlos from the Snowy River Bears Rugby League Club in Jindabyne to see firsthand how the Growth Funding Program is helping grow junior Rugby League in the Snowy Mountains.

Funding received through the program has supported the Club's Monaro Minis program, introducing more young children and their families to Rugby League and creating positive first experiences in the game.
Since reintroducing junior Rugby League in 2025, the Bears have continued to build strong momentum, with teams now fielded from Under 6s through to Under 13s. The club has also successfully launched an NSWRL-sanctioned League 7s competition, providing even more opportunities for young players to participate and develop their skills.
The visit provided an opportunity to discuss the impact the funding has had on participation, the Club's future plans and the importance of continuing to invest in grassroots Rugby League in regional communities.
It was inspiring to hear from Fran about the club's vision and the commitment of its volunteers, who continue to create opportunities for local children to experience all that Rugby League has to offer.
“Receiving the financial support from the Growth Funding was a game-changer for our Club. It allowed us to think bigger, invest in our people and resources, and create opportunities that we may not have otherwise been able to deliver. Most importantly, it gave us the confidence to build something special for the kids and families of the Snowy Mountains.
“We are incredibly grateful to NSWCRLA, NSWRL and ARLC for believing in our vision and helping us take this next step. The future of the Snowy River Bears is incredibly exciting,” said Fran.
The NSWCLRA looks forward to supporting more Clubs through Round 2 of the Growth Funding Program, which will open later this year. Further information, including eligibility and application dates, will be shared with members once available.
